My Story:

The Nike Geo Merlins always had a pleasing look and this 2000 UEFA Champions League version ranks among one of the most sought after ones being at the apex of the European game.   This Blue Grey version should have at least been used in the quarter-finals and semi-finals for the 1999-2000 installment because the finals contested between Real Madrid and Valencia was using the Brown Black version.   Regrettably this was the final season that Nike was the official match ball provided for the UEFA Champions League after just 2 seasons and was replaced by the now very iconic Adidas Finales.

Maybe it was not a pity after all considering the Adidas Finale balls have become an icon in itself with the star designs and is synonimous with the UEFA Champions League.  Had Nike continued to supply the UEFA Champions League balls, we would have been looking at versions like the Total 90 Aerow versions, the Total 90 Omni and the Total 90 Ascente.  Contrast this to the Finales rolled out so far, things certainly look less exclusive.

The Official Story:

I have definitely not seen one for this ball so we should make do with one for the generic Nike Geo Merlin.
